ANDEAN WEDDING

An Andean wedding in Peru is a beautiful, spiritual ceremony rooted in ancient traditions that predate the arrival of the Spanish. Unlike a conventional Western wedding, this ritual, known in Quechua as "Sirvinakuy," is a deeply personal and meaningful event that connects the couple not only to each other, but also to their community, their ancestors, and the Pachamama (Mother Earth).

The ceremony takes place in a natural setting, often a sacred mountain or near a significant river, far from any formal buildings. A Shaman or "Pako," a spiritual guide respected within the community, leads the proceedings. The atmosphere is created with natural elements: flowers, coca leaves, and a colorful "manta" or woven cloth on which offerings are placed.

The ritual is a rich tapestry of symbolism. Coca leaves, central to Andean culture, are shared as a sign of respect and as an offering to the gods, symbolizing the couple's promise to support each other through all aspects of life. Offerings, known as "pagapu," are also made to the Pachamama, seeking her blessing for fertility and prosperity in the new union.

The couple, often dressed in traditional, colorful garb reflecting their heritage, exchanges simple rings, but the true union is symbolized by the joining of their foreheads – a gesture known as "tinkuy," representing the merging of their minds and spirits. The Shaman guides them in exchanging vows of love, respect, and mutual responsibility within their community.

Following the sacred ritual, the community celebrates with a feast featuring traditional Andean cuisine like pachamanca (meat and vegetables cooked in an earth oven), music, and dancing. It is a vibrant, communal affair that emphasizes the importance of family and shared life.

An Andean wedding is more than just a marriage; it's a spiritual commitment that honors the natural world and the rich cultural legacy of the Andes. It is an unforgettable experience for both the couple and their guests, offering a profound glimpse into a living, breathing tradition that prioritizes harmony with nature and community bonds above all else.

Program:

Celebrate a mystical wedding in the City of the Incas. This special ceremony, presided over by an Andean priest, will take place in the beautiful Llaullipata Reserve, just 15 minutes from the city of Cusco.

You will celebrate your wedding or wedding vow renewal ceremony in the midst of breathtaking countryside and make an offering to mountain spirits called Apus, which represent the masculine side, and to the earth mother called Pacha Mama, which represents the feminine side.

Enjoy this divine location, decorated with lovely flowers from the area and filled with live music performed on traditional instruments. Afterward, you will raise a glass of champagne in a toast to your union.
