Downhill mountain biking on the slopes of Peru's Chachani volcano is an adrenaline-fueled adventure that takes riders on an epic journey from high-altitude desert to the streets of Arequipa. This exhilarating ride is a staple for adventure seekers visiting the "White City," combining stunning Andean scenery with a thrilling, multi-terrain descent.

After a 4x4 ride up to elevations of around 4,800 to 5,000 meters above sea level, cyclists begin their descent, which can last several hours and cover tens of kilometers. The journey is typically broken down into several segments, each with its own character:

-The initial phase often involves navigating a winding, sandy, and stony track, demanding focus and skill from riders.

-The terrain later transitions to a faster-paced section, sometimes a cross-country sand track where more experienced riders can pick up speed and test their limits.

-The final leg is a smooth, paved road into the city, allowing for a relaxed and scenic cruise as you approach Arequipa.

Throughout the entire experience, cyclists are treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding volcanic landscapes, including Chachani itself and the neighboring Misti volcano. The route passes through the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, where it's possible to spot native wildlife like vicuñas and alpacas. Although the activity is predominantly a downhill ride, some sections can be physically demanding, with guides and a support vehicle always on hand to assist tired riders.

This is a downhill bicycle tour that offers stunning views of the snowcapped peaks surrounding the city of Arequipa. At the same time, you will enjoy the splendid scenery of the high Andes as they transition into the valley at the bottom.

We will pass through a part of the National Salt Mines and White Water Reserve. Depending on the level of expertise of the group, we can either take an exhilarating ride or take it easy and enjoy the scenery.
