CUSCO'S SACRED VALLEY

The Sacred Valley, or Willka Qhichwa in Quechua, is a verdant stretch of the Andes that served as the heart of the Incan Empire. Wedged between the former Incan capital of Cusco and the iconic Machu Picchu, this fertile valley is carved by the winding Urubamba River and cradled by towering peaks. For travelers, it offers not just a gateway to the "Lost City," but a profound journey into ancient culture, stunning landscapes, and a living history.

Beyond Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley is a destination in its own right, brimming with archaeological wonders and vibrant communities. The town of Pisac is a popular stop, known for its extensive Inca ruins and a bustling market filled with colorful textiles and local crafts. At the other end of the valley lies Ollantaytambo, a magnificent Inca fortress sculpted into a cliffside with impressive terraces that served both military and ceremonial purposes.

For many, the valley's lower elevation provides an ideal place to acclimatize to the Andes before tackling the higher altitudes of Cusco or the Inca Trail. This makes a few days exploring the valley not just worthwhile, but a smart strategic move for a comfortable trip.

Ultimately, a visit to the Sacred Valley offers a rich and immersive experience. It's a place where ancient stone meets modern life, and where every winding road and mountain vista tells a story of a civilization that built an empire in the clouds.

Program:

You will drive through a scenic landscape to the Urubamba Valley, the "Sacred Valley of the Incas". Arriving at the town of Pisac, an hour's drive from Cusco, you will visit the Inca ruins that lie above the town, home to the colorful Indian Market. The Andean terraces in this area are remarkably well preserved. The tour continues to the colorful Pisac Market, where the local Indians meet to sell their merchandise as they have done for centuries. There is also a handicraft market.
